Greetings, people of Halo Customs. I've been playing Halo for roughly a decade now and I recently decided to give hosting organized custom games via Halo Customs a shot!

I'll be hosting my first lobby next Monday, May 19th and so far not too many people on Waypoint, the 343i fan forum, or HC have jumped at the opportunity to join in... So, I wanted to know if any experienced hosts had any tips for getting people interested in one's customs!

I figured people would be excited to see someone hosting Halo 3 custom games, as a majority of the customs on Halo Customs take place on Halo 4 (and a few on Halo: Reach here and there) but I'm starting to think I may have thought wrong...

Let me know what you guys think and if you wanna play some fun Halo 3 customs (stuff like Halo on Halo, Jenga, Garbage Man, etc.), please consider stopping by my lobby on Monday night! More info on this page.

I think the most important thing you could do is join other customs first. Get to know the people of HC. If you become a regular in enough custom lobbies, people will recognize your gamertag and when you eventually post your own lobby, those same people are bound to join. Adding HC regulars to your FL is also a good idea. Just make sure they'll remember you.

Hosting customs right away as a newcomer isn't always the best idea because people will just say, "Who is this guy?"

An example of why joining before hosting is a good idea is this lobby. http://halocustoms.com/threads/may-16-2014-nobels-novelty-customs-nobelnaga.16453/

That is his first lobby and he already has 7 RSVPs. That is because people know him and have played with him in many games.

Second thing that I will suggest is having a good lobby write-up. What would entice you more to join? A lobby write-up that says "join me for minigames" or a complete one with a map list, rules, and maybe even a banner. You need to make your lobby sound fun so that people will be more motivated to join.

Examples of lobbies with good write-ups.

Here's a lobby template that might help you. http://halocustoms.com/threads/custom-game-lobby-format.14786/

Thanks, Zandril! I've already played in a lot of lobbies hosted by people on Halo Customs and have read through some of the forums you have suggested... I'm guessing I will just start to get more RSVPs as time goes by and I host more and more lobbies. I'll just treat this first one as a practice run of sorts.
