So if you havent heard Titanfall is a new game in development by a company called Respawn Entertainment. Some genral background behnd it is your a "Titan Pilot" that controls these giant robots called "Titans". The game is set in the future where humanity has spread to the fa cornors of the universe and there is a war going on between the The Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Militia.

There is only one thing I am really worried about with Titan Fall. If I buy it for the 360 instead of the XBOX 1 (still a stupid name) then how long will I be able to play it? How large of a community would I be a part of? I have no doubts that many players will go onto the next gen consoles instead of continuing to play on the 360 so what player base would I have to work with?

The only other thing about Titan Fall that I have is a disappointment. I am sad that there is no single player to it. I would love to see an epic single player story for this game. It has so much potential and yet it, to me, feels unexploited.

I feel ya... I too will be getting it for the 360 and im pretty sure all current gen games will drop dramatically in players come the launch of the new consoles. As to there not being a single player story, I feel some games need to focus strictly on multiplayer to flesh the experience out as much as possible, though it would be interesting to see where they would take this if it were a story...

It seems that they have a semblance of a story in their game right now with how the game gets set up. The problem is I don't know how developed it is going to be. To me it just seems like it is something that is tacked on. I want to care about why they are fighting, not just fight for fightings sake.

Take Battlefield 2142 for instance. It had fantastic gameplay. Massive 64 person games with Titan Mode. One of the best shooters I have ever played. Yet the only real explanation given was at the title screen vid as well as a few paragraphs of text on a loading screen. Most of which was completely meaningless. There was no investment for the player. No motivation beyond just shooting things and hanging out with friends online.

I find that games are far better when the player has something invested emotionally with the characters. Be it from single player or their online avatar. Halo and CoD do this amazingly well to be honest. The single player has characters in it that people focus on. They get a reason for why there is a war on. Why these people/things exist and why they hell they are way out in space to begin with, or in CoD's case where ever the hell those games take place on Earth. That perspective, the emotional attachment, transfers over to multiplayer even if only slightly. I see players customizing their characters to suit their personalities as well as ways to fit into the story from either of those games. The maps are out of the story as well. Or at least resemble sections of the story where you can relate to them. They have meaning to the player instead of just some random rubble strewn area or pile of rocks that nobody give a damn about.

Yes that is my honest opinion on that matter. Take it or leave it.

So far Titanfall seems to have a story to it, but only just. I really hope they spent a significant amount of time on it to flesh it out and make the characters, places, battles have meaning to a player instead of just the grey mush that shooters are becoming. A single player campaign could easily do this, what they have now could possibly do this as well but I am uneasy about it. I only hope that it gets fleshed out so it is actually significant.

Let me through that back at you with Team Fortress 2. To quote Red vs Blue, "They have a base, we have a base, they have to die." I mean perhaps it is because the game is so straightforward in its style that it works. Still Battlefield 3 was successful in its multiplayer popularity with an awful story tacked on.

Personally I prefer story-driven games, and honestly single player most of the time.

I personally think this will go on PS4 or it's sequel. I mean just look at the first Mass Effect, it was on PC and xbox 360, and now the whole series has been rereleased for all platforms.

I would just like to say, prior to H4 the only story we had for Halo multiplayer was: Reds are good, Blues are bad. Then we stole a flag or killed everyone or whatever the hell we felt like that day.

Titanfall: I am excited, but very cautious. I hope its skill heavy and enjoyable, but I won't be pre-ordering.

That's just it. I am not talking about a Multiplayer story like RvB. I am talking about a fully fleshed out story such as Halo's campaign. That gave us back story into the character we used. Why we were using the maps that were on there. So on and so fourth.

And yes there are always gaming successes that have gone with out a storyline (Battlefield series) but they are few and far between to be honest. Also Battlefield had an advantage, its historical factor. Using real events in its game just exaggerated for gameplay. But that is besides the point. I do admit that games which are strictly multiplayer can succeed the odds are against them, at least to me.

This will be a breath of fresh air even if it should turn out to be a bad game...

...I'm really getting bored of all the modern age shooters and WWII shooters... they start to get me nauseous :D

Its BF 2142 with mac suits... finally something fun. :)

After playing a few rounds of the beta, I'm not a big fan of it. Ofcourse the full game will be significantly better with more weapons and maps but the general gameplay feels fairly stale at this point. I also think, since the customisability is pretty limited, that the game will become repetitive quickly. However, alot of the people I know who have also played it absolutely loved it... So I guess it's a good game, but not for my likings.

That's not exactly true. It wasn't always obvious why the teams were fighting, but often the map can give clues to that. Look at Exile, there is a crashed ship and pieces of it have been used to create shelters in an enclosed canyon. It's clear that the survivors of the crash have set these up, and now they may be fighting over resources or territory, possibly years later. It's actually got a lot of similarities to a Mass Effect 2 mission. Similarly, on Breakpoint you can see the wires set up running from the Forerunner ship to the core building, to the server room, and finally to the analysis building. This kind of a site would be a prime target for hired mercs to want to attack, as forerunner knowledge is highly valuable. The team setting up to take it comes in from the snowy, natural side as if they just came over the ridge, and they have to push through to get the important data at the connection point. This makes sense too because this map is always used for 1 sided objectives. The story is even more obvious in Invasion where there are covenant vehicles pushing up to the base trying to steal the data core. Not every map had this kind of a story to it, but a number of them did.

All I have to say is the beta is amazing! In my opinion, I love all the mechanics the game brings to it's sandbox and it's very enjoyable. For the limited amount of weapons, maps and gamemodes the beta has, it hasn't bored me yet. It far exceeds my expectations and I love it. I'll definitely be pre-ordering the game when I get the money. Also, I did some rodeos:
