No, but we certainly recommend it! Talking with your fellow players really enhances the experience, but there is no overarching rule saying that it is absolutely mandatory.
Of course, if the host of your lobby specifically asks you to have a mix, then that's a different story. Then, we do ask that you comply with what they ask.
