News HC Weekly Recap: GamesCom August 4th

When I woke up earlier today I had a feeling that I was forgetting something. Something that was probably important. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, so I decided to boot up my computer and was greeted by a collection of "Z0MG!!11!1!! HALO WARS 2!". Turns out, I had forgotten about a little thing called GamesCom. Thankfully the internet is a wondrous place full of information and videos that allow people to catch up on things they may have missed. So, lets go ahead and do a brief recap of some of the highlights of the Microsoft Briefing, shall we?

Halo News

Of course, every recap starts with Halo news. For the sake of saving some time this week, I'll be skipping out on the RvB news for this week but fear not as I'll be covering both this weeks and last weeks episodes next week. Now, onto the news.

So I'm pretty sure most of you know by now but for those that don't, Halo Wars 2 was announced at GamesCom. I'm sure it came as a surprise to many of you as it certainly did to me. During the trailer we see an injured Spartan Douglas firing a magnum as he gets pulled back by another Spartan. We also get a glimpse at an unnamed Brute Chieftain wielding a Gravity Hammer. With Halo Wars iconic opening theme being heard in the background, this trailer sent shivers down my spine and I'm sure it'll send some down yours, so be sure to check it out and let me know what you think down below.

Spartans never die...
It's probably also worth noting that this will be coming to the Xbox One and to Windows 10. Yes, it's coming to PC.
Next up, we have another announcement but this time with Halo 5. For those that suffered through the "pro" commentary, you will have noticed that 343i decided to show off a CTF match on a new arena map called Coliseum. During a brief fly through of the map we get to see two power weapons, namely the sniper rifle and Incineration Cannon as well as an overshield power up. On top of that, they also demonstrated the return of flag joggling which is sure to make your matchmaking experience all the more competitive. Thought that was it? We also got to see another trailer that was highlighting Halo 5's multiplayer. During the trailer we get a quick look at a few new maps, some of which have different themes suchs as urban themed maps, desert/sandy themed maps and lastly a snowy themed map. Feel free to check that out down below.

Follow your Destiny

Weekly Nightfall - Sepiks Prime (Devils Lair)
  • Epic - Heavily shielded and highly aggressive enemies appear in great numbers.
  • Angry - Minions of the Darkness won't flinch, even after massive damage.
  • Lightswitch - Minions if the Darkness deal much more melee damage.
  • Brawler - Guardian Melee damage is greatly increased.
  • Nightfall - If all players die, your Fireteam is returned to Orbit.
Weekly Heroic - Taniks (Shadow Thief)
  • Heroic - Enemies appear in greater numbers and are more aggressive.
  • Specialist - Special Weapon damage is favored.

Destiny also had a huge content reveal but there's one thing that was revealed that might leave a sour taste in your mouth. Year 1 Legendary items won't go beyond their current max damage output which is currently at 365. This means that these items cannot be ascended like they could in HoW. Now for the sting, apparently common and uncommon items that come with TTK will have a higher base damage than max year 1 legendary weapons. This makes alot of sense as alot of effort has went into designing the newer weapons that we'll be seeing in TTK. That and if we were able to take our Fatebringers with us through Year 2, we may not use another primary for PvE.

So to take that sour taste out of your mouth, some good news. New base max level will no longer be level 20, it'll instead be up to level 40. Now, whether new raid gear will allow you to level up beyond that is still up in the air but I'd expect so seeing as that's how all previous raid gear has worked.

That's only the tip of the iceberg as we'll also be seeing 8 new story missions, one of which is about Praedyth (that guy how owned a pretty cool sniper rifle and pulse rifle). On top of that, we'll also get 4 new strike missions, one of which is a Playstation exclusive until next fall. With all of the lore that this will add, you'd think that'd be it right? Well not really, as our ghost will also be able to scan some areas during some of the missions that will provide some nice lore tidbits. Apparently this will be how grimiore cards are tied into the game. Right now you may be thinking "But that means I'll have to listen to the Dinklebots terrible dialogue, doesn't it?" Well, not according to this article. RIP Dinklebot, you shall not be missed. For the record, The North Remembers. bad game of thrones joke is bad

Another thing to take note of is that RNGesus just got a little friendlier. According to this article, RNGesus will now take into account what gear you have already received and should instead give you something that you do not currently own. Hopefully this will give you something that you've been waiting to get for a long time. This should up your chances of getting Bones of Eao or Gjallarhorn.

Now there's alot more news for me to cover here so for more information regarding what you'll be seeing with TTK, be sure to read this article right here. Like I said, it's only the tip of the iceberg but who knows? Destiny is shaping up to be a pretty good game and with these changes, it's sure to change the mind of even the biggest haters.

Other GamesCom News
Now like I said earlier, I may have forgotten that the MS Briefing was today however some people didn't. Normally I would've covered this content however I didn't get that opportunity to do so today, so instead I'll refer you guys to this thread over on Reddit. It feels abit cheap but I'd rather provide you guys with content that doesn't feel abit half assed.

Personally I'm looking forward to Worms: WMD, Ark: Survival Evolved, Crackdown (because its needs moar Michael Bay), Dark Souls 3, Homefront and finally both Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Wars 2. What are your top picks from GamesCom? Be sure to let me know down below.

Also, if you're interested in watching Microsofts GamesCom Press Briefing, then check out the video down below.
Now over to Addy for the deals of the week.

Disappointing Discounts

Addy: This week may bring great news for both Halo and Xbox One in general if you've been following the GamesCom coverage across the in the interwebs thus far the same can't be said for this week's Deals with Gold which focus' heavily on Borderlands and Sports titles. Naturally if I had to make a recommendation for either platform I'd simply suggest Borderlands 1 on the Xbox 360 at 75% off as there are plans for it to come to backwards compatibility on Xbox One later this year.

If you're on Xbox One and you're itching to play something new however, preview members can now play Shadow Complex and Gears of War 1 via backwards compatibility as of today (Gears 1 was a Games with Gold Title last year but if like me you forgot to download it, download codes can be had on eBay for around $5 last time I checked).

As usual you can find the contents of this week's sale below;

Thanks Addy.

Earlier this week Psychoduck posted a preview of some of the MYM map submissions. If you haven't had a chance to submit your map, you still have until August 15th to get your submissions in as well as having a chance to earn some sweet gaming gear.

Last week, Fuzzle was highlighted for his community content. This week, he's provided even more information for Destiny's next dlc. Check out the video down below and be sure to give him some feedback.

Shotguns in Destiny are pretty OP. Using one normally grants a guaranteed kill (or assist) but sometimes guardians just won't die. Ain't that right Jesus in Malibu?

Anyway guys, that about wraps it up for this week.

Until next time,
Snack
