The First Elegy: The Cold White Chorus

Hello dear Customers,

Ever since Halo Reach I've wanted to create AND finish a Linear Progression campaign. It is now that I've finally been able to take the first steps of the latter: actually finishing one. A campaign that is to be named "Urban Elegies". This campaign focusses on the events that occur to a group of survivors after the zombie apocalypse has hit in. Waking up in a hospital, they have to make their way out, from the rooftops onto the streets out of the city. This first act, named "The Cold White Chorus", focusses on the happenings in the hospital.

Each map will have a different style of play, with different unique elements that add to the overall experience. For instance, "The Cold White Chorus" features a working elevator.
Not only will the gameplay be different, so will be the theme. In each name lies the thought behind the map. So is the case with "The Cold White Chorus". To clarify: 'white' stands for the hospital and for the (dead) doctors, 'cold' stands for the unpleasant waking of the survivors as well as feeling of the dead bodies of the infected, and 'chorus' is again a reference to this undead army. It is also the chorus of some sort of elegy, after the intro (the starting up of the apocalypse) was missed by the survivors due to their coma.

As you might have been able to guess by these clues (people waking up in an infected hospital, people having missed the start of it all because of their coma, people trying to make it out of the hospital and out of the city) this is all a reference to the pilot of the tv series The Walking Dead. This first act of the campaign was heavily inspired by that first episode, called "Days Gone Bye".

Since this is still a work-in-progress, I won't be providing any links. I need to get some major work done on the other 4 parts of the campaign first! But for now, I hope you enjoy taking a look at this map preview!

Humans spawn at one end of a long hallway. By the other end of it a somewhat safer holdout area can be found, be sure to grab some weapons on the way.

But beware of the zombies... you won't have a radar in here.

Throughout the whole map, cones indicate places for the zombies to drop down through holes in the ceiling.

Since there are a lot of those holes, it is recommended that you gear up and get going to the holdout area.

There are several ways for the zombies to approach the humans in all of the holdout areas. As a human, make sure to lock down each one of them or your life may end shortly.

It's a shame that I never was able to finish these. Luckily I do plan on continuing this campaign in Halo 5 once Infection is released.

Ahh, The Cold White Chorus. The elevator segment was one of the most frightening yet exciting features I'd experienced on a linear infection map. Do you plan on remaking these at all, Rem?

Any chance you're planning a boss battle or final epic confrontation at the campaign's end?

I always intended to have a boss battle in one of the maps. I had actually figured out a way in Halo 4 for one of the zombies to have different traits than the others, but it wasn't perfect and I was never able to finish the map anyway. I'm hopeful that Infection will offer more options and that I can pull it off completely this time around. :)

Of course! Especially the elevator sequence. I still need to get used to welding and to scripting in Halo 5 though. Also, since a Linear Progression map usually requires more adjusted settings in the gametype than a standard Infection map would, I plan on waiting until Infection is released and I'm familiar with the details before really digging into the lovely scene of Linear Infection in this game.
