News HC Weekly Recap: August 25th

This weeks Halo Bulletin contained some information regarding updates for The Master Chief Collection, cheating and reputation. So here's the low down, in recent weeks an exploit was discovered in which a player could provide negative feedback for players that were better at the game than they were. Now, this resulted in the better players having a bad overall reputation which in some cases, lead to temporary bans on Xbox Live. The Xbox Team have since brought out an update that will ignore player being blocked in select "ranked" playlists. Those playlists are as follows;
  • Halo 2: Anniversary
  • Team Doubles
  • Halo 2
  • Halo 3
  • Halo 4
  • Team Hardcore
Now fret not because if a player is providing you with a negative experience, you're still able to leave the appropriate feedback for said player. There's nothing more annoying than bad sportsmanship so it is nice to see that actions are being taken to improve player experiences.

Now, how about a little good news? Bravo also mentioned some brief details about the next MCC content update, "which will target top community items." Now there isn't a whole lot of details regarding this but (and this next part is 110% speculation) it would be nice to think that this is a working web based fileshare system. We may not have a whole lot to go on regarding the next content update but the next playlist in rotation involves brains, a shotgun and a whole lot of zombies. The infection playlist will contain the following;
  • Halo 3: Braaaains, Creeping Death, Save One Bullet, Hide and Seek, Speed Demons
  • Halo 2: Infection, Cadre
  • Halo 4: Flood, Hivemind, Last Stand

Thought that was it? There's also some other changes coming to some of the current playlists but here's my pick for the top 3 changes.
  • Team Doubles: SMG starts will be removed from Halo 2 Classic.
  • BTB: All AR-start Assault Halo 3 Gametypes will be removed (until BR variants can be added).
  • Halo 4: Pitfall and Vertigo will be added for Legendary Slayer.

Red vs Blue
Spoiler Alert!

S13 The Great Destroyers

As Felix and Locus arrive at the Temple to activate the Purge, they're met by Carolina and Wash who try and talk them out of it. Meanwhile Kimbell, the Feds and the New Republic launch an assault on the communication tower with their new alien toys and give the space pirates hell. Also... someone gave Caboose a tank...

As the assault is taking place, Felix and Locus receive feedback from the Comm Temple and increasing pressure from the Tartarus. A fight breaks out between Felix, Locus, Carolina and Wash and while the fight ensues, Aiden Price, commits mutiny and kills the captain, he then takes control of the Tartarus. He tries to leave Chorus and abandon his mission but his hopes are cut short when Emily Grey and the rest of the group of red and blue misfits take control of the Space Pirates home base, Crash Site Alpha. They activate the tractor beam which pulls the Tartarus and redirects it into the Purge Temple. This causes a huge explosion which results in both the Tartarus and the Temple being destroyed.

There has been plenty of Destiny news over the past week and there was even a livestream! So lets start off with the live stream. Last Wednesday (August 19th), Bungie hosted one of three live streams on twitch. In this live stream, we received a brief glimpse of some of the things that we can expect to see in the tower come September 17th. Here's just a few things that I thought were of interest;
  • Moar vault space! 72 slots each for both armour and weapons, to be exact.
  • Exotic schematics for any exotic that you have discovered as well as new exotics and upgraded exotic schematics upgraded to bring year 1 exotics into year 2 of destiny. Note: this does not apply to all year one exotics.
  • Year 1 Legendary gear will be left in year 1. Note: Don't dismantle any of it yet though as the weapons and armour in your vault right now, will help determine your starting level for The Taken King.
  • Vanguard and Crucible marks will combine into Legendary Marks. You will be able to hold up to 200 marks and they are carried between all of your guardians (think of it like glimmer). You can earn an unlimited amount throughout the week.
  • Crucible weekly bounties. Finish all of Lord Shaxx' bounties to claim a reward similar to that of a nightfall.
  • Shaders, emblems and more will now have their own kiosk beside the Speaker for any shaders/emblems/etc that your guardians have collected. Note: Don't dismantle anything yet as we still do not know 100% how this will work.
  • You can buy ghost shells from The Speaker and Lord Shaxx. Ghost shells also have special perks such as alerting you to near by spirit bloom or killing titans in the crucible for glimmer, etc.
  • Class items now have stats, as do ghost shells. They will help level up your light level.
  • We can attain swords throughout your journeys.

Next we have another article by GameInformer, this one helps recap all of the information we have regarding Destiny's story into a somewhat bitesized version. I use the term bitesized lightly as its still 9 pages long. It's pretty in depth and helps go over some details that you may not have already know while also not looking like a huge wall of text.

On top of all of that, Bungie has also released two new videos. One being a teaser for tomorrows Stream "The Shield Brothers" (spoilers ahead) and a launch trailer for Destiny's legendary Edition.

Stream 2 - August 26th

Tomorrows livestream will cover The Shield Brothers strike which is one of the 3 (or 4 if you're on a playstation) new strikes in The Taken King which will see you set up against two Cabal bosses on board the Dreadnaught.

Wallet Raider

Addy: It's sale time and it seems like the 360's rein of superior savings has been put on hold for a short while. This week is very much a mixed bag on both platforms.

On Xbox One there is a selection of Digital only titles on sale, with some at pocket money prices (as low as $2.50/£2.00/€2.50). Personally I'd side with Oddworld New 'N Tasty at 33% off due to sentimental value of playing the original version on the PS1 many moons ago.

Over on 360 the main attraction is the fact that all Gears of War 3 DLC is now 50% off, just in case you've taken a fancy to it due to it's recent stint on Games with Gold. To browse through the 4 pieces of Gears content on offer as well as everything else that's on sale this week, you can find it below;

But wait, that's not all!

The end of the month is now looming so information on next months Games with Gold titles is now available. :)

The games on offer for Xbox Live Gold subscribers next month are;

Xbox One
Xbox 360
Don't forget to "Purchase" the Xbox 360 games on offer for free this month and from now on, even if you just have an Xbox One as back at GamesCom it was announced that all Games with Gold titles from now on will be available on Backwards Compatibility in the coming months.
